Success in 2009 is a Decision

Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.

As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother's womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.

Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.
Ecclesiastes 11:4-6

I have found the secret to victory in these turbulent times is:
1. Turning the news off!! I am immersing myself more and more in God's word.
2. I continue to work hard no matter what the economic environment looks like.
3. I end each day with an expectation that the work I have done (seed I’ve sown) will bring a harvest.

Also, I make it my practice to declare myself responsible for my outcome. No excuses. It is easy to blame the economy and other outside influences, but I reject the desire to do so. It is my declaration that “I am responsible!! No excuses!!”

Accountability is also important. I have people I’ve made myself accountable to. If I am experiencing difficulty at first in changing a mindset or a habit, it helps me to have someone I trust to share these struggles with so I can be victorious.

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (James 5:16)

We were not meant to exist alone. Sometimes it just helps to have someone to talk with.

Accountability is being responsible to someone or for some activity; Liability to be called on to render an account; subject to the obligation to report, explain, or justify something; responsible; answerable.

The ancient Romans had a tradition; whenever one of their engineers constructed an arch, as the capstone was being hoisted into place, the engineer assumed accountability for his work in a profound way – he stood under the arch. Now that is accountability!

I like to ask myself these questions frequently:
Can I be honest with myself? In private moments, when no one is looking could I identify situations when I performed less well that I would have liked or made decisions that might not have been optimal? Once identified, can I share these concerns with someone else?

Last, I must remind myself that “Attitude is everything.” Whatever my thoughts are about anything, I am right - because they are my thoughts. That is why I have to be careful what I allow my mind dwell upon. Do I see myself as frustrated, a failure, something that is contrary to what God says about me, or do I see myself as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus? Do I see myself the way God sees me or do I see myself the way my situations and experiences define me? What ever my answer is, I am correct.

I can’t control what goes on outside of me, but I can surely control what goes on inside of me. My constant thoughts become my mind set. My mind set becomes my actions. My actions become my habits. My habits become my destiny.

As I think in my heart, so am I. (Proverbs 23:7)
